A 33 year old bicyclist died early this morning after succumbing to injuries received in a collision with a motor vehicle in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood. The male cyclist, Rafael Ramirez, collided with the vehicle on Monday afternoon near the intersection of Addison Street and Central Avenue.
Several news sources, quoting police, have reported that Mr. Ramirez was turning left from Central Avenue to proceed west on Addison when he collided with a 1999 Saturn traveling westbound. (See, CBS Chicago.) It is a busy intersection with numerous businesses nearby. The intersection is controlled by a traffic light. Central Avenue has a left turn lane. Chicago Police report that several witnesses said that Mr. Ramirez "sideswiped" the vehicle which allegedly had the right of way. Mr. Ramirez was a resident of Elmwood Park.
It's heart breaking to see this kind of bicycle accident. I think that the any relatives should try and seek compensation.
